Sooooo, I’ve been waiting for the right moment to post about SO/Auckland, an incredibly gorgeous, fun but also very awake design hotel concept and offering just opened in Auckland’s CBD. Flick through these images to get a bit of a taste of this wonderful place. It has a fab rooftop bar too, called Hi-SO with outdoor and indoor areas.
SO brought on @worldbrandinnz Benny Castles to collaborate on the hotel design which is inspired by it being the site of a former gold vault and Auckland’s volcanic topography. The neon artwork in this front shot represents looking down on a crater and the various other volcanoes Mt Eden, Rangitoto etc, scattered into a stylish/not literal print and hotel logo. The print appears throughout the hotel including in black and pink lining of the wardrobe. The idea was it is a wonderful discovery that when you open a handbag with wonderful lining, says Castles. The staff are all fitted a beautiful uniforms, made in NZ by WORLD and all personally fitted by Castles. It’s safe to say they all look incredible! SO’s GM Stephen Gould has also managed to lure a Michelin-starred chef Marc de Passorio from France to run the restaurant. Plus, guests get a tea infused welcome drink on arrival created by the hot EK’s dedicated tea somelier. There are private dining rooms you can book including one in a room surrounded by 1000 wine bottles for six. Another room seats 22 - great for a private party. All rooms have baths with wine glass holders plus stylish refillable dispensers for organic body wash and body care products. There’s free wi-Fi and free no -alcoholic mini bar and 250 movies to choose from for free. Did I also mention the decor! A magnificent contemporary mega chandelier greets you in the foyer. You can sit on one of four $23,000 Charleston black leather couches, tipped permanently on one end, designed by Marcel Wanders for Moooi.
