Sun safe Myanmar style! Yesterday I was intrigued by the men and women going about their day with what looked like clay circles on their cheeks and foreheads. Sun protection or beauty statement? Turns out it’s both. Thanaka, a paste made from ground up tree bark, has been used by the Burmese women for 2000 years and helps protect from sunburn, is applied in attractive cosmetic patterns on the face, and also said to promote smooth skin and treat acne. It smells a bit like sandalwood too. My design is care of a wonderful woman at Lotus B&B who shared some of her thanaka with me. #naturalbeauty #myanmar #travel #thanaka 🙏 (at Lotus Bed & Breakfast)
